Supporting Lelethu Baby Shelter

Williams Hunt staff have taken Lelethu Baby Shelter under wing and assisted with any maintenance issues, as well as painting of the shelter and donations to help with the day to day requirements.

Computer donation to Thornhill Primary School

Thornhill Primary School received a donation of computers from Williams Hunt Port Elizabeth to assist in the development of its learners.

Present at the handover were Principal Mike Aweries (left), Ms J Felix (educator), students Fernando Moos and Veronia Adams, Ms SR Meyer (educator) and Williams Hunt Port Elizabeth Dealer Principal Trevor Villet.

"This (donation) will serve its purpose and can only lead to the development of our learners. We are very proud to be associated with Williams Hunt Port Elizabeth. Thank you for making a remarkable difference in the lives of our community members," said Principal Mike Aweries.

Williams Hunt sponsorship of computers

During September 2010,  Williams Hunt Dealer Principle, Trevor Villet handed over a sponsorship of 10 computers to Alpha Primary School in Gelvandale as part of an Upliftment Programme adopted by Collegiate Junior School.

This generous sponsorship will directly impact many children’s lives as they will now be in a position to learn computer skills which will empower them in this fast-paced technological age.

In September last year Grinaker-LTA sponsored a mobile computer lab with 20 network stations.  The school will now be in a position to utilise all of these stations.

Against All Odds

I would like to take some of your time to introduce you to Eric; a man with strength and faith and although against the odds,  did not give up but was determined to rise up above the hand that he had been dealt with.

Eric Moses joined Williams Hunt PE in 1988 as a New Vehicle Sales Executive and he soon became a favorite amongst the staff because of his personality, quick smile and sense of humour.

On 23 Feb 1998 whilst out on a demo, Eric was hijacked and was left in the bush on the Uitenhage road to find his way home. He was not physically harmed but was emotionally scarred. The car was recovered  some months later but it took Eric longer to get over the fear.

As a result of this traumatic experience, Eric was transferred to the Used Vehicle Dept where he excelled and in 2001 was promoted to Used Vehicle Sales Manager. It was during this period that Eric became a diabetic and as a result of this contracted glaucoma. In a space of 6 months, Eric became totally blind and was medically boarded on 31 Mar 2002.  Shortly after this, his wife had a stroke which was attributed to Eric’s situation and sadly passed away in December 2002.

In 2003, Eric went to Optima College for a Call Centre Agent assessment and then did computer training via JAWS  in windows, word and excel in 2004. Eric went back to Optima College in 2005 and studied telephony and soon was able to pick up calls. He worked in a call centre and developed a skill of memorizing extension numbers; some 190 of them. In 2006 he did a CCA course and passed with distinction.

On 1 August, Eric joined PE Chevrolet as a Telephonist and soon became a hit with the staff and customers alike. He learnt the names, positions, extension and cell phone numbers of all the staff before joining the Company and armed with Braille guide bumps on the board as a guide, a Dictaphone to record his messages, was good to go. Not one complaint was received. He handles staff slip ups like “have you seen so and so” and “Eric have a look here” well within his stride and just laughs. “Some blind people are not blind but just refuse to see” was one of his classic comment.

It was decided to transfer Eric to Williams Hunt Truck & Parts on 1 October and once again, cutting a disc with all the extensions, cell numbers,  names and positions was easy but the test was yet to come. Could Eric handle this board with some 1200 incoming calls per day and not mess up the Parts CSI.

Well, at the time of writing, Eric is handling an average of 750 incoming calls with not one complaint either from the staff or more importantly, from the customers. Once again, he rose up against the odds.

In his spare time, Eric is the Treasurer for the Disabled Community Forum and is an inspiration to all visually challenged as well as to all of us who may not be physically challenged but are challenged in other areas of our lives.

Oh yes before I forget; he is a staunch Manchester United fan.
